THE DROWNING DREAMERS BAND
is an indie shoegaze folk collective, from Honolulu, HI. Its performers on recordings and when live are all longstanding contributors, to the HNL music underground. Among them: Gary Liu Jr. (vocals, guitars, drums), Michael Nakasone (drums), Miya Yamaoka (bells, violin), Ryan Miyashiro (guitar, voice, trumpet), Sabrina Velazquez (piano/organ, vocals), Toni Wong (bass, voice), Yvonne Harada (cello), Chris Murphy (drums), Eric Yamamoto (keys, bass), and Paul Bajcar (guitar, bass).
Continuing the path of their debut, the band’s sophomore release, II, winds a wide river of brooding folk psychedelia spinning dreamily in slowcore eddies. The new album opens with paths into shadowed forests, through “Monuments” and “Far Station”; takes a breath on sun-kissed meadows in the middle; and ends at broken ruins on postrock shores, through “Empires” and “Silent Saturn.” Listeners following the path can catch glimpses of stars from rural fields below, and while drifting in the black of space itself.
Thanks so much for listening.
